Before YouTube there was MTV, before MTV there was Ed Sullivan. Wherever it comes from, visual music through technology is stimulating, entertaining, and enjoyable.
August 1, 1981 MTV broadcast their first 87 music videos. Featured artists ranged from The Who to Pat Benatar to Styx to David Bowie. Although music videos were being made well before 81, they had never been so easily accessible until this day.
At 13 I had a videocassette which functioned as a mix tape of my most beloved videos. This compilation of music entertainment was my most prized possession. One might say music was my first addiction.
The music footage I could discuss is immeasurable, so I will highlight my favorites from each generation, starting with the 50s up to the present.
1957 Elvis—Jailhouse Rock
1967 The Beatles—I am the Walrus
1970 Black Sabbath—Paranoid
1987 Poison—Talk dirty to me
1999 Korn—Freak on a leash
2005 Chiodos—All nereids beware
2008 Saturate—Soul Element
Happy listening and watching!
