Commitment

Some people spend their whole life running from it, while others embrace it warmly. Whichever road you choose, commitment is seen everywhere. Jobs, relationships, personal goals, housework, children, arts, and many other things require the commitment of time and energy.

At the beginning of each month I write out a list of goals. I list three monthly goals, three six-month goals and three yearly goals. A goal on my yearly list is to be in a band. To work toward achieving this, I must commit to practicing the guitar an hour a day while writing poetry that could potentially become lyrics.

It seems that everything in our life takes some sort of commitment. When you start dinner, you are committing to finish it. When you read the first chapter in a book, you commit to reading it to the end. When a man gives a woman an engagement ring, he is committing to a wedding and a marriage.

Erase the fears of commitment, and simply accept that it is a part of life. It is the only way to get you where you want to go. Think of Thomas Edison, he did not create his inventions over night. It took much consuming time and energy to stay committed until the final product was birthed.

I challenge you to put pen to paper and write a goals list. In your mind know the steps it will take to achieve your goals, and start committing to them today!
